Tips for wearing Muse DIY tape in hair extensions:
- Keep your hair extensions clean; tape extensions can slip when you have added oil or product buildup in the roots. That doesn't mean you have to wash them everyday, but be sure to use alcohol free dry shampoo to remove oil and product buildup in between washes.
- It is important that you do not use products with high silicone or sulphates as this may affect the bonds and you may find you get less wear out of your installations.
- Keep the hair untangled by taking time to brush the hair every day.
- Every 2-4 weeks, your hair extensions will need to be reapplied to move the extensions closer to the scalp and to keep your hair healthy. The amount of time depends on how long and how fast your own hair grows. The tape is designed to naturally break down over the weeks. These arnt the same as regualr tape in extensions they have a shorter wear time. With that, its important to note that it is normal for the hair extensions to become a little tacky as the weeks pass. Uses of hairsprays, dry shampoo and any oils will speed up this process.
- Do not comb or brush the hair extensions while hair is wet without holding at the roots, this will cause the tape to slip out.
- Never sleep with wet hair extensions. Always make sure the hair is dry and pulled up or preferably put into a braid to keep hair from tangling at night.
- Brush the hair with a hair extension brush several times a day. Be sure to brush properly, holding the roots to prevent pulling on the bonds. Use a wide tooth comb to remove tangles if needed.
- Use high quality hair care products but don’t overdo it, too much hair care product can cause build up and tangling over time. So you want to be careful with the amount of product you use. Never use any products containing oil, alcohol or ethanol as this can damage the hair extensions and also wear down on the adhesive.
- Use sulphate free shampoo and conditioner (only on the ends) as well as 100% natural hair products to keep hair extensions in good condition.
- It is best to use a hair mask once a week to revive your hair extensions. We recommend using a conditioning treatment on the mid-length to ends of your hair extensions. Note: never use any oils or conditioners on the roots where your tape extensions are bonded as they will come out.
- Never lighten the hair extensions-bleaching on any type of hair always ruins the quality making hair dry and brittle. If you want to colour hair extensions only go within 2 shades DARKER. Use semi or demi hair colour only. However, we strongly advise again colouring hair extensions.
- When working out with hair extensions or swimming with hair extensions be sure to remove excess sweat and chlorine after working out.
- When using hot tools be sure to use a heat protectant spray (keep away from roots). The more you use heat on your hair, the shorter the life span of the hair extensions.
- When using serums or oils avoid contact with the tape, use on mid-length to ends only.
- Muse DIY Tape in extensions are not best for those who have lost a significant amount of hair due to any illnesses or for those that have extreme hair thinning. Consult with your stylist about another option.
- Since a person’s average natural hair loss is between 50-100 strands per day you will see a small amount of naturally released hairs in between the tape bonds at time of removal. This is normal and should not be interpreted as hair loss due to wearing hair extensions. You lose hair every day naturally, but when you have tape extensions the hair remains in between the tape bonds.
- Note: Excessive sweat from working out, steam baths, saunas, and sea salt swimming may lessen the longevity of the extensions. Precautions should be taken to reduce the amount of exposure to these activities if you want your tape extensions to last the full 4 weeks.
If your hair extensions start feeling sticky, don't fret; it's a natural phase in their lifespan. The adhesive tape is intentionally designed to break down over time, and it's at your discretion to determine when the stickiness becomes bothersome. The duration of extensions varies based on different hair types; those with oilier scalps may notice stickiness sooner, typically within 2-3 weeks. Factors such as hair products containing sulfates or alcohols, along with natural scalp oils, can accelerate stickiness.
Importantly, there should never be any pain or tension when wearing these extensions. If you experience discomfort, it's a clear sign of incorrect application. In such cases, it is recommended to remove the extensions and reapply them correctly to ensure a comfortable and seamless look. The decision of when to remove them is entirely yours.
If you're confident in your colour choice skills, focus on the colour of your hair's ends. This is the part that needs to blend seamlessly with your DIY Hair Extensions. Don't stress if you don't nail the colour on the first try – we offer exchanges for unused DIY Hair Extensions that are still attached to their original ties within 7 days of purchase. Please note that due to hygiene reasons, we cannot exchange used hair.
How can I ensure that the colour of the DIY Hair Extensions matches my hair accurately?
Upon unboxing, hold your DIY Hair Extensions beneath the ends of your natural hair. You're aiming for a smooth colour blend with your own hair's ends.
Even if you're a shade or two off, rest assured – it's hardly noticeable. Our multi-strand coloring system ensures that once the DIY Hair Extensions are tucked beneath your hair, cut, and styled, they'll seamlessly meld with your own locks.
Can I dye my DIY Hair Extensions?
We recommend toning your DIY Hair Extensions a shade or two darker if needed, but avoid any attempts at bleaching. Each extension comes from a different individual and undergoes a series of treatments to reach the colour and quality they have when you receive them. Colouring them afterward might not always yield consistent results. Please note that Muse cannot be held responsible for issues arising from coloured extensions.
What if I have hair with two different shades? Will the DIY Hair Extensions blend seamlessly?
Certainly! To achieve a seamless blend, match your DIY Hair Extensions to the lighter of the two shades. Alternatively, we offer two-toned options that work perfectly for those with highlights. You can also consult your hairdresser about adding some lowlights to your extensions to mimic your natural hair.
