Shipping & Delivery

Will I pay customs?

Free shipping means that we cover the shipping charges only.

If your shipping address is outside of Australia or USA, you may need to pay for customs fees to import your order to your country.

At Muse For Hair, we ship international packages DDU (duties and taxes unpaid). This means that international customers may be responsible for paying inbound duties and taxes to local Customs authorities. Sometimes, the courier may pay these fees in advance, on your behalf, in order to clear customs faster. You may then be required to pay these fees prior to being able to receive the delivery.

The rate of these fees is applied by your country, and we are unable to advise on how much they might be. This is normal for international purchases.

Muse For Hair does not collect from these incurred expenses. The customs fee is not part of the shipping fee. Shipping is charged by the courier, and customs is charged by the local government.

If these duties are not paid, the parcel will be held in customs and in most cases returned to us. Please see our Returns and Exchanges Policy for more details on this.

How long does shipping take?

All our products are shipped from Victoria, Australia. All orders are shipped Monday to Friday, we do not pack orders on weekends and public holidays. All orders on Friday placed after 2pm AEST will be shipped the following Monday.

Once we have received your order, please allow up to 3 days for your order to be processed and dispatched, although we typically dispatch the same day whenever we can on Monday - Friday.

Your local customs may hold your order while they process the shipment for taxes and duties collection (if required). This can also significantly impact on the shipping times.

Please note all estimated delivery times are calculated from the time of shipment, not from the time of order.

Standard Domestic Orders: 3 - 10 business days
Domestic Express Orders: 2 - 5 business day
Standard International Orders: 14 - 28 days
US Express Orders: 4 - 7 business days

SHIPPING TIMES DURING SALE PERIODS

Sale periods like Black Friday Cyber Monday will significantly affect delivery times, and shipping delays can be inconsistent and hard to predict. We do our best to update shipping times on our website however, we can't guarantee the accuracy of the information.

How can I track my order?

Once your order is placed and payment has cleared, you will receive an email confirmation. Once the order has been fulfilled and dispatched for delivery, you will receive another email with your tracking number.

Make sure you keep an eye on your tracking number, as from here the order is now in the hands of our trusty postal services, and we can only see as much information as you can. If you have made an International Order, you can put the same tracking number in to your local postal service tracking to see more details as once it leaves Australia, Aus Post doesn't keep as much information on tracking.

You should allow 1-4 days for your tracking information to show. In some cases you may even receive your order before any tracking details have even shown up. If there is an issue with your delivery you will need to contact the postal service directly, as there is often very little we can do once the package leaves our hands. It is now up to the postal service and the recipient (you.)

How long will my Pre-Order take?

All Pre-Orders should expect 4-5 weeks for delivery from the time of order.

These are special orders and not items that we keep on hand, so make sure you're organised and get your pre-orders in with plenty of time.

Colour Matching

Can you help me with a colour match?

Absolutely. If you're uncertain about which DIY Hair Extensions colour is best, please provide us with some pictures of your natural hair in natural light, showing its full length. We're here to assist you in selecting the ideal hue for your DIY Hair Extensions, whether it's for a casual day out or a lively Saturday night.

Just shoot us an email at support@museforhair.com with the snapshots of your hair from various angles and in natural lighting, and we will give you our best recommendations. Remember to avoid direct sunlight and filters. Opt for pictures with your hair down, ensuring the roots to ends are captured.

Our experts will provide the most accurate assessment based on the pictures you share. Keep in mind that while we strive for precision, variations due to lighting, angles, and monitor screens might impact the advice offered.

What if I have hair with two different shades? Will the DIY Hair Extensions blend seamlessly?

Certainly! To achieve a seamless blend, match your DIY Hair Extensions to the lighter of the two shades. Alternatively, we offer two-toned options that work perfectly for those with highlights. You can also consult your hairdresser about adding some lowlights to your extensions to mimic your natural hair.

If the colour isn't right can I dye my DIY Hair Extensions?

We do not recommend dyeing your hair extensions. If you choose to we only recommend toning your extensions a shade or two darker if needed, but avoid any attempts at bleaching. Each extension comes from a different individual and undergoes a series of treatments to reach the colour and quality they have when you receive them. Colouring them after this process might not yield consistent results, and may cause damage or a loss in wear-time. Please note that Muse cannot be held responsible for issues arising from coloured extensions.

How do I check that the colour of the DIY Hair Extensions are the right colour once I've received them?

Upon unboxing, hold your DIY Hair Extensions underneath the ends of your natural hair. You're aiming for a smooth colour blend with your own hair's ends. If you hold it up to the roots of your hair, side by side it will almost always look off if you have more than one colour through your hair.

Even if you're a shade or two off, rest assured – it's hardly noticeable. Our multi-strand coloring system ensures that once the DIY Hair Extensions are tucked beneath your natural hair, cut, and styled, they'll seamlessly blend with your own locks. The beauty is that they don't need to be an exact match to look amazing.

Returns & Exchanges

Can I exchange for a differnt colour?

We understand that choosing the right colour for your hair extensions can be difficult, which is why we offer an exchange policy.

To be eligible for an exchange, the hair must be unused, in it’s original condition with the security ties still intact. For hygiene reasons we cannot accept any hair that has been removed from it’s security ties. The exchange request must also be initiated within 3 days of receiving your order. We will gladly exchange your hair for a more suitable colour, and can assist you with the colour matching process. The customer will be responsible for all shipping costs associated with returning the hair to us.

To initiate an exchange, email us at support@museforhair.com and provide us with your order number, and your concern with the hair colour. Any additional information including photos of your own hair and the desired look you are trying to achieve will help this process along more quickly. If you already know what colour you would like to exchange for, then please also include that information. You will then be given instructions to return your hair to us.

Please note that these instructions must be followed exactly, and failure to provide the relevant tracking details for your return hair may result in a void of warranty and exchange. Muse For Hair is not responsible for any lost hair in transit, or any items sent to the incorrect return address.

When would my order NOT be suitable for an exchange?

You will NOT be able to exchange your Muse Hair Extensions:

  • If you have released the security ties holding the extensions together. Place your natural hair over the top of the bundle to check the colour blends seamlessly, do not untie the extensions if you wish to be eligible for an exchange.

  • If you wash, colour, cut or tamper with the hair in any way that cannot be reverted back to it’s original condition.

  • If you use products outside of the Muse recommended hair care range, or ingredients specified not to be used on the extensions.

  • If you have had a ‘change of mind.’

Can I get a refund?

We DO NOT offer refunds for change of mind, so please read our full refund policy carefully before making a purchase on our website.

Care & Maintenance

How do I get the most wear out of my extensions?

Keep your hair extensions clean. Tape extensions can slip when you have added oil or product buildup in the roots. That doesn't mean you have to wash them every day, but be sure to use alcohol-free dry shampoo to remove oil and product buildup in-between washes. Follow all recommended product uses, and take really good care of your extensions always being gentle.

What products can I use?

It is important that you do not use products with high silicone, sulphates, alcohol, or protein as this may affect the bonds and you may find you get less wear out of your installations

What should I avoid near my tapes?

In order for your tapes to work properly, it is important you do not use heat styling at the roots as this will make the tape sticky and hard to come off. You also should avoid conditioners, oils and alcohol on or near the tapes. It is normal for the tapes to become a little tacky after about a week of wear, so don't be alarmed by this.

How do I sleep in my extensions?

Keep the hair untangled by taking time to brush the hair every day. We recommend sleeping with your hair in a loose braid, or using a silk hair cap at night time, and never sleep with wet hair extensions.

How often do I need to reinstall the extensions?

Every 2-4 weeks, your hair extensions will need to be reapplied to move the extensions closer to the scalp and to keep your hair healthy. The amount of time depends on how long and how fast your own hair grows. The tape is designed to naturally break down over the weeks, but excess oil in your hair and excessive washing with speed up this process. These aren't the same as regular tape-in extensions, they have a shorter wear time. With that it's important to note that it is totally normal for the hair extension tapes to become a little tacky as the weeks pass. Uses of hairsprays, dry shampoo and any oils will also speed up this process.

Can I comb/brush my hair?

Yes, it is important to keep the hair brushed and detangled, and you should brush your hair several times a day for this purpose. Begin at the ends of the hair and work your way up. Be sure to hold your extensions at the roots to avoid excess pulling while brushing. Do not comb or brush the hair extensions while hair is wet without holding at the roots, this will cause the tape to slip out.

1. Section Your Hair: Divide your hair according to the placement of the extensions.

2. Apply Extension Release Solution:Begin by saturating the tape of the extensions using our Muse Extension Release Solution. Let it sit and soak for 30 to 60 seconds.

3. Gently Separate Hair: Using your fingertips, carefully detach your natural hair from the tape of the extensions. Take your time to ensure a smooth and comfortable removal process.

4. Address Residue (if needed): If you observe any residue after removal, gently apply a small amount of nourishing coconut oil to your scalp. Allow the oil to work its magic for around 30 minutes.

5. Rinse with Shampoo: After the coconut oil treatment, rinse your hair thoroughly using shampoo to cleanse your scalp and eliminate any remaining residue.

Remember, if you're planning to re-install your hair extensions, avoid using any form of conditioner or hair mask on your hair before applying fresh extensions. This ensures optimal adhesion during reapplication.

2. Section Your Hair: Divide your hair into sections, beginning with the second-largest hair extension. Place it approximately 2cm inwards from the base of your hairline.

3. Apply the First Side of Tape: Gently peel off one side of the tape backing and position the extension around 1cm below the sectioned hair. Ensure proper alignment.

4. Press Firmly: Press down firmly on the extension to ensure a strong hold, then carefully remove the remaining tape backing.

5. Layer Your Hair: Allow the rest of your hair to fall, covering the applied extension. Press down again for a seamless blend.

6. Repeat the Process: Continue these steps for each extension, progressively working through your desired hairstyle.

Bonus Tip: For an optimal outcome, consider reserving the smaller extension pieces for framing the front of your face. This enhances your natural look and features.

By following these instructions, you'll confidently achieve a flawless application, turning your hair into a stunning masterpiece. If you have a blunt cut, you may need to get your hairdresser to blend the extensions with your hair or add an extra set of Muse Hair to blend any harsh lines.

How do I choose my correct shade?

We recommend colour matching to the ends of your hair, not the roots. If you're confident in your colour choice skills, focus on the colour at the ends of your hair as this is the part that needs to blend seamlessly with your DIY Hair Extensions. Remember that in most cases you will not see the roots of the extensions at all, and your natural roots will be the dominant colour.

Don't stress if you don't nail the colour on the first try – we offer exchanges for wrong colour matches so long as the DIY Hair Extensions are unused, with the ties attached, and in their original condition. These exchanges must be initiated within 3 days of receiving your order, and you can read our full policy on our Refunds and Exchanges page. Please note that due to hygiene reasons, we cannot exchange used hair.

What if they feel uncomfortable?

There should never be any pain or tension when wearing these extensions. If you experience discomfort, it's a clear sign of incorrect application. In such cases, it is recommended to remove the extensions and reapply them correctly to ensure a comfortable and seamless look. The most common case is that your sectioning hasn't been clean enough, and a hair has landed on a diagonal or in a strange position causing pulling. The extensions are very light so they should not pull down on your hair is installed correctly. The decision of when to remove them and reapply is entirely yours.

Will the tape get sticky?

If your hair extensions start feeling sticky don't fret, it's a natural phase in their lifespan. The adhesive tape is intentionally designed to break down over time, and it's at your discretion to determine when the stickiness becomes bothersome. The duration of wear at a time varies based on different hair types; those with oilier scalps may notice stickiness sooner, typically within 2-3 weeks. Factors such as hair products containing sulphates or alcohols, along with natural scalp oils, can accelerate stickiness.

How many sets will I need?

Each DIY Extension Kit comes with 120 to 150 grams of hair which are separated in to 7 pieces designed to wrap comfortably around your head. If you have extremely thick hair, or very short hair and are required to blend extensively, then you may require 2 sets. Feel free to email us with some photos for our recommendation at support@museforhair.com

Will the extensions cause hair loss?

Since a person’s average natural hair loss is between 50-100 strands per day you will see a small amount of naturally released hairs in between the tape bonds at time of removal. This is normal and should not be interpreted as hair loss due to wearing hair extensions. You lose hair every day naturally, but when you have tape extensions the hair remains stuck to the tape rather than falling out as it regularly would.

I have thin hair, will they work for me?

Muse DIY Tape in extensions are not best for those who have lost a significant amount of hair due to any illnesses or for those that have extreme hair thinning. If you aren't able to place sufficient hair over the top of your tape, they may be visible. Consult with your stylist about another option, or feel free to send us a photo for our recommendation to support@museforhair.com

Can I use serums/oils?

Yes, when using serums or oils avoid contact with the tape, use on mid-length to ends only.

Can I use hot tools?

Yes you can. We recommend using a temperature no hotter than 180 degrees celsius. When using hot tools be sure to use a heat protectant spray, and keep all product and direct heat away from the tapes. The more you use heat on your hair, the shorter the life span of the hair extensions.

Can I tone my extensions?

Much like dyeing your hair, we do not recommend toning your hair as it has already been processed and may cause the extensions to dry out quickly. The hair colour doesn't need maintaining, it should remain the same colour for the duration of their lifespan.

Can I dye my extensions?

We do not recommend dyeing your extensions, as they have already been processed and any additional bleaching may ruin the quality of the hair. As your extensions are not attached to a natural hydration source, and further processing of the colour may cause the extensions to become brittle, dry, and the life-span compromised. If you must colour hair your extensions, only go within 2 shades DARKER and use semi or demi hair colour only. However, we strongly advise against colouring hair extensions.

Should I use a hair mask?

It is best to use a hair mask once a week to revive your hair extensions. We recommend using a conditioning treatment on the mid-length to ends of your hair extensions. You can use a treatment on your extensions higher up when they have been fully removed and there is no tape on the wefts, but all oils must be completely gone when re-appying tape in order to adhere properly. Remember never to use any oils or conditioners on the roots where your tape extensions are bonded while your extensions are installed, as they will come out.

How do I wash my hair and how often?

We recommend only washing your Hair Extensions if they are holding an odour, or if they are holding product build up. Washing them too often can strip the moisture out of them.

Use sulphate free shampoo and conditioner, and only ever condition the ends of your hair. Conditioner on the tapes will cause them to slide out. 100% natural hair products will keep hair extensions in good condition. You can shampoo your head/scalp as normal, but be sure to check that your shampoo is extension safe.

Can I use hair care products?

Use high quality hair care products but don’t overdo it, too much product can cause build up and tangling over time. So you want to be careful with the amount of product you use. Never use any products containing excessive oils, alcohol or ethanol as this can damage the hair extensions and also wear down on the tape adhesive.
